Agunechemba: Governor Soludo’s bold crime-fighting initiative
Governor Soludo has shown a commendable commitment to addressing the escalating violence that has tarnished Anambra’s reputation as a hub of prosperity,” .
In a statement, RULAAC’s Executive Director, Okechukwu Nwanguma, lauded the governor’s commitment to tackling the rising violence that has plagued the state. However, he urged the security operatives to maintain professionalism, uphold due process, and respect human rights to avoid the mistakes of past groups like the Bakassi Boys, who were notorious for human rights violations, including extrajudicial killings.
Nwanguma stated. “The decline in public safety, particularly during festive seasons, has been palpable, and Soludo’s administration must reclaim the vibrancy of the state.”
“Reports indicate that Agunechemba’s actions may have led to the deaths of innocent individuals mistakenly identified as criminals. This tragic incident calls for urgent and transparent investigations to prevent the erosion of public trust in the state’s security measures.”
“The success of his administration’s security strategy hinges on accountability and the assurance that such tragedies will not be repeated. Without this, the credibility of both the governor and the Agunechemba outfit remains at risk.”
While recognizing past efforts to combat criminal threats, Nwanguma acknowledged concerns about recent operations, particularly in Owere-Ezukala, Orumba South Local Government Area.
He emphasized the need for strategic and scientific approaches, including the use of technology such as drones for intelligence gathering and reconnaissance, to improve operational effectiveness while safeguarding citizens’ rights.
